Permitting & Interconnection SOP

Use this SOP to keep the Daylight Portal updated as the permit and interconnection applications move from submission through approval.

The portal must reflect the current status of both applications so Daylight can track the project and release it for installation.

Step 1: Upload the Permit Submission

Once the permit is submitted to the AHJ, update the Permitting section with:

  • Permit Submission Package

  • Permit Submitted Date

  • AHJ name

  • Any additional supporting paperwork

The uploaded package should be the same package submitted to the AHJ.

Step 2: Upload the Interconnection Submission

Once the interconnection application is submitted to the utility, update the Interconnection section with:

  • Interconnection Application

  • Interconnection Submitted Date

  • Utility Assigned Project Number

Enter the utility project number exactly as provided by the utility.

  • If the interconnection approval is required for the specific AHJ prior to permit submission please add the note in the permit notes section.

Step 3: Keep the Project Information Current

Update the portal whenever new permit or utility information is received.

This includes:

  • Revised applications

  • Correction documents

  • Updated project numbers

  • Additional paperwork

  • Resubmission documents

Use the Additional Paperwork section for supporting documents that do not belong in the primary upload fields.

Step 4: Upload the Permit Approval

Once the permit is approved, upload:

  • Final Permit Approval

  • Permit Approved Date

The approval should be the stamped permit, approved plan set, or other final approval issued by the AHJ.

Do not upload the original submission package as the permit approval.

Step 5: Upload the Interconnection Approval

Once the utility approves the interconnection application, upload:

  • Final Interconnection Approval

  • Interconnection Approved Date

The document should clearly show that the project has been approved by the utility.

Do not upload an application confirmation, customer signature request, or submission receipt as the final approval.

Step 6: Submit for Daylight Review

After both approvals are uploaded and all required fields are complete, submit the package for Daylight review.

Before submitting, confirm:

  • Permit submission package is uploaded

  • Permit submitted date is correct

  • AHJ name is correct

  • Interconnection application is uploaded

  • Interconnection submitted date is correct

  • Utility Assigned Project Number is entered

  • Permit approval is uploaded

  • Permit approved date is correct

  • Interconnection approval is uploaded

  • Interconnection approved date is correct

Daylight will review the documents to confirm they belong to the correct project and that all required information is complete.

If information is missing, inaccurate, or uploaded in the wrong field, the project will be returned so the discrepancy can be corrected.

Best Practices

  • Upload documents on the same day they are submitted or received.

  • Enter dates based on the actual submission or approval date.

  • Upload each document to the correct field.

  • Make sure every document belongs to the correct customer and address.

  • Do not leave the portal outdated while applications are moving.

  • Do not submit for review until both final approvals are available.

Accurate and timely portal updates help prevent installation delays and unnecessary follow-up.
